Yet another teenage male driver has been caught drink driving and travelling at an excessive and dangerous speed on the Northern motorway.
Police say that about 10.40pm on Saturday 28 August 2010, a Nissan Sylvia motor vehicle was speed checked at 177 kmph as it travelled southbound from Tristram Avenue. The car was eventually stopped at the Shelly Beach Off ramp.
The 18 year old driver was found to be intoxicated. He recorded an EBA reading of 462 micrograms of alcohol per litre of breath. This is three times over the limit of 150 mg/l. He’s since elected to have a blood test to determine if there is to be a future Court appearance.
There were further revelations when six other occupants emerged from the vehicle for which the offending driver held a restricted licence only.
In explanation the driver said he had learned a lesson from the experience but police records show that his propensity for speed and alcohol use had not waned recently as he already has previous convictions for speed and alcohol use.
Police say this is an example of a young male driver who has no respect for the law. This individual has put the lives of his passengers and other road users at great risk as a result of his attitude to dangerous driving, speeding, excessive drink driving, restricted licences, and passenger overloading.
