Council’s Waste Management and Minimisation Plan set Auckland the goal of zero waste by 2040. Using less plastic, especially single-use plastic, is a great way to start downsizing your rubbish and helping the environment.
"Think about it...why would you make something that you are going to use for a few minutes out of a material that's basically going to last forever. What's up with that?" - Jeb Berrier, BagIt movie.
Four quick and simple changes you can make to use less plastic:
- Say no to single-use plastic bags
Bring your own reusable ones instead. Make it a snazzy one for extra feel-good brownie points. - Use a refillable water bottle/ reusable coffee cup
This is a no-brainer. If you were wavering about whether these are worth the investment, now’s the time to go for it – you can feel good about your choices and the environment will thank you. - Shun the clingfilm
Such a simple one but it makes such a difference over time. Instead use a lunchbox, Tupperware or even an old ice cream tub to store your lunch. - Eat in at food outlets instead of getting takeaways
No more plastic boxes and cutlery – the perfect excuse!
