Bach Musica NZ ends their festive 40th anniversary season with Puccini’s Italian opera-style Messa di Gloria and Mozart’s much loved Concerto for flute and harp.
The concerto is one of only two true double concertos composed by Mozart and Bach Musica NZ is delighted to welcome highly acclaimed New Zealand harpist Ingrid Bauer for her debut with the orchestra. Bauer has been described as ‘undoubtedly one of the best harpists of her generation in Australasia’. She will be joined by award-winning international flautist Luca Manghi.
Music & Artistic Director Rita Paczian has chosen one of her favorite choral compositions and one close to her heart: 37 years ago she performed this Puccini mass in her final conducting exam; interestingly, the same Messa di Gloria was also Puccini’s graduation show piece from the Istituto Musicale Pacini in 1880. Vocal soloists are tenor Derek Hill, Freemasons Resident Artist with NZ Opera, and Australian bass-baritone Nicholas Dinopoulos.
After the performance the audience is invited to join the performers and the Bach Musica NZ management team for the official launch of their 2018 Subscription Series in Town Hall's Supper Room. Complimentary wine and cheese will be provided.
