Franklin Ward Councillor and Deputy Mayor Bill Cashmore is encouraging Aucklanders to start preparing for another fabulous summer – and to put Franklin on the checklist of places to visit.
Fun on the coasts and inland
He says the region is lucky to be bordered by the wild west coast and the more tranquil east coast and has many fantastic opportunities for fun inland as well.
“The amazing rugged coastline along the Āwhitu Peninsula makes for a great day out,” he says.
“Be sure to include a visit to our beautifully restored lighthouse and stop for a delicious meal on the way home at one of Waiuku’s great establishments.”
Cr Cashmore also recommends planning ahead for the big events coming up.
Of particular interest will be the Pukekohe and Clevedon A&P shows, and the two international musical festivals, Pharos and Splore, at Tāpapakanga Regional Park.
Tourism a focus for local board
Among Franklin Local Board’s priorities is to see the area promoted for its tourism opportunities through branding, digital tools and as a motor home-friendly destination.
Cr Cashmore says plenty of work is being done to ensure the region has safer roads, its public facilities are regularly renewed and the infrastructure around beaches is fit for purpose.
