Sign of significance for Patumahoe

A new sign has been unveiled in Patumahoe by Franklin Local Board chair Angela Fulljames, board member Alan Cole and representatives from the Ngāti Tamaho Trust.
Regional Signage Project
The sign was developed by Auckland Transport and Auckland Council in association with mana whenua as part of the Regional Signage Project.
The dedicated signs tell the story of mana whenua’s connection and history to the region and their location is selected by mana whenua in recognition of its cultural significance to the area.
Signs feature a map and history of the area and incorporate a tohu design agreed on by mana whenua.
Patumahoe
Patumahoe’s location played an important role as a centre of transport and trade as well as a place of settlement and cultivation. The name ‘Patumāhoe’ is itself of Ngāti Tamaoho origin and recalls a significant battle that took place in the area.
