On Saturdays, there will be seven services running between Hobsonville, Beach Haven and the Downtown Ferry Terminal and on Sunday there will be six services.
Funding for the weekend ferries is provided in a joint partnership with the Hobsonville Point Residents' Society, HLC, Willis Bond & Co, AV Jennings, Classic Builders, Jalcon Homes, Universal Homes, Auckland Transport and NZ Transport Agency.
Auckland Transport's Ferry Services Manager Gareth Willis says, "Hobsonville Point is growing quickly, and the people who live there believe in weekend services so much that they have been willing to put up their own money to make it happen.
"Auckland Transport thanks the local community and HLC for partnering with us. We are continuing to grow and improve Auckland's ferry network, and providing weekend services is a key part of that plan."
Caroline McDowall, HLC's Project Director for Hobsonville Point says, "This is a great example of government and council agencies working together, alongside a highly organised community and supportive private developers and builder partners."
Hobsonville Point Residents' Society Chair, Errol Haarhoff says, ''The Hobsonville Point community expressed very strong support for a weekend ferry service and agreed to contribute to costs. The residents' society is delighted that this is now confirmed to commence this week and expresses thanks to all organisations who have made this happen.''
The service will be run by Fullers 360. Visit AT.govt.nz for more information.
