Auckland Council’s goal is to make it easy for you to do the right thing with your unwanted items. Every area of Auckland has a week each year for an inorganic collection, picked up from within your property.
There is no extra charge for the collection service; it is included in your property’s rates.
You can use this service for some items (up to one cubic metre) not appropriate for your kerbside bins, such as appliances, furniture, electronics and lawnmowers.
You can book an inorganic collection in the way that works best for you:
Once you’ve made a booking, you’ll be given a timeframe for when collections will happen in your area. Closer to the time, we will contact you with your exact collection day and other key details.
You can book as early as you like and cancel if you no longer need the service.
Through inorganic collections, we recover anything we can repair, repurpose, reuse or recycle, to prevent them from going to landfill. Items and materials recovered through our inorganic collection service are provided for free to local community recycling centres, as well as charities and community groups who’ve registered to receive items.
Thanks to Aucklanders’ contributions to the inorganic collection service, more than 6000 tonnes of material have been diverted from landfill since the service was rolled out in 2015.
Got an item you’re not sure about? Use this online tool, and we will tell you the best way to dispose of it responsibly.
Remember, leaving unwanted items to languish on the kerbside is a form of illegal dumping.
If you see dumped rubbish on public property, call us at 0800 NO DUMP (0800 66 3867), and we will help take care of it and investigate to find out who dumped it there.
