National guest nights for August 2015 were 4.2 percent higher than in August 2014, Statistics New Zealand said today.
"Three-quarters of the rise for August was from domestic guest nights," business indicators senior manager Neil Kelly said. "International guest nights also rose, mainly in the South Island."
For August 2015, compared with August 2014:
North Island guest nights were up 3.6 percent, and South Island guest nights were up 5.0 percent.
Domestic guest nights were up 5.0 percent, and international guest nights were up 2.6 percent.
10 of the 12 regional areas had more guest nights.
All four accommodation types had more guest nights.
For the year ended August 2015, national guest nights were up 5.4 percent from the August 2014 year.
The trend for national guest nights continued to rise in August. Seasonally adjusted guest nights were flat in August, following a rise in July.
