Central Otago Police are seeking information after a WW1 memorial brass plaque was taken from a headstone at the Omakau Cemetery sometime after the 10th of November 2015.
The distinctive round bronze plaque featured both Brittania and a Lion, and was engraved with the name Samuel Corrigal. The memorial plaques were issued to the next-of-kin of all British and Empire service personnel who were killed as a result of the war.
"The theft of this plaque is a reprehensible act," Senior Constable Darren Cox, of Omakau Police, said. "Not only is it the theft, but the significance of the plaque to the family that has caused a lot of distress."
Police would like to hear from anyone who may have any information which will help to reunite this plaque with the family and we encourage them to contact the Omakau Police on (03) 440 2190.
