Check out what's happening at the Waikaraka speedway this summer
Waikaraka Park Family Speedway is gearing up for a hot summer of major events over the holiday period.
After a setback at the beginning of the season, the speedway club, Auckland Council and Maungakiekie-Tāmaki Local Board have worked together to place nearly 2,000 high quality stadium seats around the track at great spectator viewing points close to the action.
Maungakiekie-Tāmaki Local Board chair Simon Randall says the speedway is a key summer attraction for locals and visitors to the area.
“We’re pleased to be working closely with the club to ensure the series is as successful as ever. The recent closure of the permanent stand for safety issues was a significant stumbling block, but the cooperative approach in providing extra seating has delivered a great result for the season ahead."
The seating will be in place ahead of Christmas and ready to go for this summer’s major events. Gates open at 5pm and racing starts at 7pm.
Meeting dates as follows:
- ‘Saloon Speedweek’ on December 29
- Auckland Stockcar Championship on January 2
- New Zealand Stockcar Grand Prix over two nights on January 4 and 5
- Super Saloon ‘Topless’ 50 Lap Classic on January 7
- New Zealand Mini Sprint Grand Prix in combination with the Auckland Super Saloon Championship on January 16
- New Zealand Super Saloon Grand Prix on January 23
- International Superstock Teams Race vs Great Britain on Sunday January 31
- North Island Saloon Championship on February 13
- New Zealand Modified Grand Prix on February 20
- The Modified Dirt Cup on February 27
- Superstock Teams Nationals Night 1 and Stockcar Pairs on March 4
- Superstock Teams Nationals Night 2 and Auckland Modified Championship on March 5
- The John Webster Memorial Sprintcars, Midgets, Superstocks & Super Saloons –‘ Best of the Best’ on March 19
- Easter Spectacular including a massive Demolition Derby and Fireworks Display on March 26 (6pm Start)
- Auckland Super Stock Championship & Streetstock 290’s on April 9 (6pm Start)
- ‘King of the Park’ Modifieds, Super Saloons, Saloons, Stockcars and Ministocks on April 16 (6pm Start)
- Grand Finale Superstocks ‘King of the Park’ on April 23. (6pm Start).
