This Sunday, March 6 is Te Ra O Te Tamariki – Children’s Day. The day is all about spending time with, and treasuring our children. This includes giving our time, praise and encouragement, listening and talking, sharing love and affection and exploring new experiences.
Making our city a great place for children to grow up and reach their full potential is a top priority within the Auckland Plan. Auckland Council is proud to be supporting our communities across the region with a range of events, services and facilities that focus on our children.
Take them camping – 5-6 March
There’s no better gift to give your kids than your time, so unplug, unwind and take your kids camping this weekend at Auckland’s Big Camp Out.
On 6 March, we’ll have fun family activities happening in 18 of our 44 campgrounds. From bat hunting to seashore safaris, there’s plenty for the whole family to get involved in.
Learn to swim
Splash out and enjoy some swim time with the kids on Children’s Day. Children aged 16 years and under can swim for free at all Auckland Council pools. Check out your local centre.
While you’re there, why not book a learn to swim lesson? No matter your age, ability or level, there’s an affordable and fun class for you, led by our well-qualified and knowledgeable staff. All Auckland Council Pools and Leisure swim school instructors hold either the AUSTSwim or Swimming New Zealand ASTA qualification.
Some of our centres will be running special Children’s Day events including:
Kauri Kids
Do your littlies need quality early childhood education? Auckland Council has 10 Kauri Kids centres which provide safe, nurturing spaces that allow children to have fun learning while they grow.
Kauri Kids provides affordable, flexible childcare options that meet your needs and lifestyle, and help give your child the very best start in life. All centres offer 20 hours free early childhood education, with some centres offering up to 30 hours free for children over the age of three years.
This Children's Day event provides children and their caregivers the opportunity to spend a fun morning together finding out about the treasures in their community.
