Aucklanders are being urged to have their say on proposals to develop rural Whenuapai into a planned urban community of around 9,600 homes and 8,600 jobs.

Public feedback on the draft Whenuapai structure plan opens on Friday 24 June and closes on Thursday 21 July.

Within the next 10 to 20 years, a community of around 23,000 people will call Whenuapai home as infrastructure allows for development.

A structure plan is the first step the council will take in discussing with the community a plan to create a sense of place for an urbanised Whenuapai, shaping how land use activities will integrate with the natural environment.

The new Whenuapai

The future Whenuapai will offer:
• A range of quality housing choices with higher densities around transit networks
• Significant employment opportunities for the local and the wider population with good freight access
• Attractive public transport options and good local and regional connections
• Environments with strong community focus, primary and secondary schools, playing fields, neighbourhood centres and community facilities
• High standards of water quality in existing streams and biodiversity management on land
• Opportunities for walking, cycling, sport, recreation and social interaction, and access along the coastal edge
• A place that respects its past values and character
