Auckland is home to many pests – plants, animals and diseases. These pests can have adverse effects on our environment, economy and health. Controlling them has benefits for our native plants, animals and ecosystems.

The Regional Pest Management Plan (RPMP), which guides Auckland’s management of these pests, is now being reviewed. You have until Friday 27 November to make your views known.

Auckland Council is seeking informal feedback so that it can gauge community expectations and raise awareness of pest controls, plant pests and marine biosecurity.

Specific topics up for discussion are:

  • bangalow palms
  • widespread weeds (including moth plant, privet and others)
  • red-eared slider turtles
  • feral goats
  • marine pest management in the Hauraki Gulf
  • the future of community pest control.

Councillor George Wood says: “The review of the plan is the ideal opportunity for Aucklanders to have their say over the future of pest management in the region. We encourage as many people as possible to contribute.”
