Key messages for distractions campaign

From Monday (14 September), Police nationwide will be paying particular attention to those drivers who are putting peoples’ lives at risk when they use their mobile phone while driving.

If you are using a mobile phone while driving, you can expect to be stopped. Penalties are an $80 infringement fee and 20 demerit points.

Police will use a range of tactics to ensure drivers are not using mobile phones while driving.

But it won't stop there. Police will be picking up any other high risk behaviours, such as people not wearing their safety belts or running through intersections.

This is about making our roads safer. Police does not retain a cent in any fines issued. We would prefer not to issue any infringements, as it would show everyone is driving safely and giving their full attention to the road.
