Mt Albert Aquatic Centre reopens on 12 September following a $3.2 million makeover.

Auckland Council provided a grant to the Mount Albert Grammar School Swimming Pool Trust to carry out the work, which included:

  • a new roof
  • repainting of the entire centre
  • repairs to the sauna, spa pool and steam room
  • refreshed hydroslide and changing rooms
  • replacement of components of the pool plant and air conditioning systems as some of these items have come to the end of their natural life.

“It’s looking great and users will notice a big difference,” says chair of the Mt Albert Grammar School Community Swimming Pool Trust, Glenda Fryer.

"But more than that, the upgrade ensures the facility is safe and operational for another five to 10 years.”

Mount Albert Grammar School (MAGS) headmaster Dale Burden says it will be great to have the pool operational after the much needed upgrade.

“We value the relationship with the council as our arrangement enables the new MAGS Aquatic Academy, MAGS Swimming Club and our physical education classes to have access to a top facility in the school grounds."

Located in the Albert-Eden Local Board area, board chair Peter Haynes says there is an increasing demand for leisure and fitness facilities in Auckland so it is important community facilities keep up with the need.

“We appreciate the public’s patience during the refurbishment so we encourage people to come by on the opening day for a free swim.”

There are several free swim sessions on the Saturday to mark the centre’s reopening as follows:

  • 11.30am-1.30pm
  • 2-4pm
  • 4.30-6pm.

Each session is limited to a maximum of 150 people at a time so get in early.
