A touch of spring for many

This week we'll see the full spectrum of weather across New Zealand (how very spring-like) and there are some warmer temperatures in the forecast  too.

Expect wet weather over the next couple of days as a rain band travels up the country. High pressure builds through Wednesday and Thursday bringing  dry and settled weather. The mid-week window of mostly fine weather should  feel very spring-like, with sunshine and warmer temperatures in the mix for  many.  The high pressure remains across the North Island through to the  start of the weekend. However, a front approaches the South Island on  Friday bringing more rain to the far southwest of the country.

Many places enjoyed blue skies this weekend. However, showers persisted in the north for much of the weekend along with thick cloud in some coastal  regions. "Monday and Tuesday will be wet for many areas, with the rain  currently affecting the South Island expected to move north," said  MetService Meteorologist Emma Blades. "The main band of rain will reach the  North Island on Monday night, and a heavy rain warning is in place for  Mount Taranaki and the Tararua Range," Blades commented.

Snow showers are likely to lower to 400 metres in the south of the South Island tonight. Higher up in the mountains, venues for the Audi quattro  Winter Games near Wanaka and Queenstown will receive a fresh delivery of  snow.
