Community organisations on Aotea / Great Barrier Island have been supported with more than $200,000 in grant funding by Aotea / Great Barrier Local Board.
The board’s recent Local and Capital Grant round saw funding awarded for a variety of projects including $12,650 for 2022’s Great Barrier New Year’s Picnic, through to $50,000 towards an interior fit-out of the island’s St John’s ambulance station.
Aotea / Great Barrier Local Board Chair Izzy Fordham says boosting the island’s organisations with funding is a crucial part of what the local board does and it's always a highlight for board members.
“Grant funding is a tangible way that the board can give back to our communities, providing them with direct support to achieve their goals and to carry out their services and operations.
“We’re incredibly lucky to have so many wonderful organisations on the island, and with many of them running off the back off countless hours put in by volunteers, being able to help their work with funding is really rewarding.”
