Tāmaki Makaurau and the whole of Aotearoa New Zealand is now under the Red setting of the COVID-19 Protection Framework’s traffic light system.
At Red there are more mask requirements, and reduced gathering limits to lower the risk of picking up the virus and super spreader events.
Red is not lockdown. The government’s goal at Red is to slow the spread of Omicron.
Businesses stay open and you can do most of things that you normally do, including visiting family and friends and travelling around the country. There are no regional boundaries.
Here’s what you can do:
More information on life at Red is on the government’s website.
Events
Limits on gatherings (to 100 people for vaccine pass controlled events) will affect many council-run events, including our popular Music and Movies in Parks events. Look out for cancellation information in the coming days.
Gyms, pools and leisure centres
Auckland Council’s gyms, pools, group fitness and recreation centres are open to those with vaccine passes.
This applies to all council-run and council-contracted facilities, including Auckland Council Pools and Leisure, YMCA, Community Leisure Management and Belgravia Leisure centres.
Libraries
You can visit Auckland Council libraries and browse your favourite collections with your vaccine pass. If you don’t have a pass, you can still use our contactless click and collect services, eCollections and online resources, free WiFi outside our buildings, research and information services via phone or email, or our virtual book-a-librarian service.
You can find out more on the Auckland Libraries website.
Accommodation and overnight stays
Auckland Council Holiday Parks will require visitors to present their vaccine pass, while baches, campgrounds and lodges in our regional parks will not require passes. Generally, this is because of the small number of people who are already associated with each other in the same space. Strangers are not likely to come into contact with each other at a stand-alone bach with no shared facilities but could do at a holiday park’s shared kitchen or bathroom facilities.
