The current funding round for Auckland’s Creative Communities Scheme is counting down before closing later this month.
If you are a creative arts talent - emerging or established - Auckland Council and Creative New Zealand warmly encourage you to apply before applications close on 22 February. Young people under 18 can apply with a signature from their guardian.
Ross Cunningham, Manager Arts & Culture Advisory at Auckland Council says the scheme, funded by Creative New Zealand and administered by Auckland Council, is a way for individuals and groups to focus their energy on the community for any new arts projects and ideas.
“We want to support the awesome talent in all of our diverse communities,” he says.
Last year the Creative Communities Scheme supported The Deaf Wellbeing Society to run a series of New Zealand Sign Language workshops for the profoundly deaf, such as drawing and carving a Māori motif, as well as harakeke weaving, kapa haka and poi.
The workshops were led by experienced artists who themselves were from the deaf community. This was the first time the Auckland deaf community had organised workshops for its own members.
Whether you’re an artist, performer, cultural or community group, give your project new energy and support by applying for a Creative Communities Scheme grant. It can happen anywhere across the Auckland region – on beaches, in parks, community halls, theatres, streets and galleries.
Funded by Creative New Zealand and administered by Auckland Council, the Creative Communities Scheme encourages communities to make arts and culture an enriching part of everyday life for Aucklanders through art, music, dance, film-making, toi Māori, Pacific arts, weaving, writing, poetry and theatre.
There are two funding rounds each year. For those who miss out this time, there’s another opportunity coming up.
The next funding round for the Creative Communities Scheme season opens on 1 April and closes on 1 August 2019.
