Seven young Auckland visionaries, aged 7 – 11, had their inventions assessed by Vector engineers this week. The kids are the winners and runners-up in the Design The Future competition, run by Vector and Auckland Council.
The inventors met engineers from Vector’s New Technology team where they had the opportunity to talk through their ideas with the experts and discover how they could be developed in real life.
Amelia Floyd and Sophie Wood paired up with engineers Kate Murphy and Moonis Vegdani and worked through the practicalities of storing energy from lightning to power their multi-sourced renewable electric cargo ship. Ava Tillack discussed her waste-to-water and power solution, involving static electricity generated in tubes.
As a bonus, the group were given a demonstration of Vector’s trial vehicle-to-grid and vehicle-to-home two-way EV charging equipment, and even got behind the wheel (parked!) of several of the newest EVs on the market.
The Design the Future winners will play a very special role in the spectacular launch show for Vector Lights on Anniversary Weekend.
