Michael Parekowhai artwork on Queens Wharf is almost finished.
Completion of the artwork by Michael Parekowhai on Queens Wharf, known as The Lighthouse, is nearing and an opening date will soon be announced.
The Lighthouse is being generously gifted to the city by Barfoot & Thompson, to commemorate 90 years of business in Auckland.
Auckland Council’s Manager of Arts and Culture Kaye Glamuzina says the scaffolding and wrap have now come down and the exterior of the work and its surrounds are being finished.
“Creating this artwork on the tip of a busy working wharf and through a very rainy winter and spring has been an interesting challenge, but one that the team has approached with admirable tenacity and creativity."
“We are working on plans to host a very special opening celebration in February when the work has been completed and Queens Wharf is ready for Aucklanders to welcome this extraordinary addition to our city. Details will be announced soon,” she says.
