Auckland Council’s first ever Love Food Hate Waste fund has received 64 applications for grants.
The fund was established to support Aucklanders who have ideas to prevent or reduce food waste.
The inaugural grant opportunity has attracted a range of ideas, from workshops on preserving food and planning your food shop to community events promoting recipe sharing, and even a film screening.
A selection panel of community engagement and waste experts will now assess the applications. Successful grants will be announced in late October.
Avoidable food waste costs the average household $563 a year. Auckland Council is supporting the national Love Food Hate Waste campaign by encouraging Aucklanders to waste less food.
