Sunday is Children’s Day – take them camping
This Sunday 6 March is Children’s Day – Te Ra O Te Tamariki – and there’s no better gift to give your kids than your time, so unplug, unwind and take your kids camping this weekend at Auckland’s Big Camp Out.
“Children’s Day is a time where families get together to celebrate the children in their lives. Our Big Camp Out is the ideal place to be on Sunday when we have family activities happening in 18 of our 44 campgrounds,” says Auckland Council Parks and Recreation Committee Chair Councillor Christine Fletcher.
Activities range from bat hunting and seashore safaris to guided bush walks, mountain biking and disc golfing. And of course there’s camping, with no phones, TV, computers or other modern day distractions.
When asked what they most like to do on Children’s Day, young people surveyed said ‘doing fun stuff with my family’ was their number one preference.
“Some of our campgrounds are filling up but there’s still plenty of room to pitch a tent for some family time. The forecast is for fine weather on the weekend, so there’s no excuse not to make this weekend a lasting family memory for your children,” says Councillor Fletcher.
