With summer upon us, we take a closer look at the role of theAuckland Harbourmaster, a unit of council-controlled organisationAuckland Transport.
The Auckland Harbourmaster, Andrew Hayton, and his team are in charge of making sure Auckland’s waterways are free from any navigational hazards and that all water users are behaving in a safe manner.
They provide safe and efficient 24-hour maritime management to commercial and recreational traffic, manage and maintain Auckland’s navigational buoys and moorings, educate the public on the importance of water safety, and are first responders to oil, petrol or diesel spills in the Auckland area. But more often than not, they are simply out on the water to lend boaties a hand.
This summer, the harbourmaster and his team would like to remind all Aucklanders to be aware of the rules when out on the water and that safety is everyone’s responsibility.
The harbourmaster and his team can be reached by calling 09 362 0397 or visit Auckland Transport more information.
