Canterbury Police are currently assessing how yesterday’s decision by Christchurch City Council concerning windscreen washers can be used as part of the prevention activities currently undertaken by Police.
Inspector Richard Bruce, Canterbury Police District Prevention Manager says the decision is a positive move to discourage and prevent this activity at intersections. “Police are concerned that windscreen washers are putting not only themselves at risk but also other road users. The Council’s decision provides Police with another tool to combat this activity.”
The Council and Police have provided the attached photographs from CCTV footage to illustrate the potential danger windscreen washers are putting themselves in.
Police will not be making any further comment on the Council’s decision until later next week.
