• From Monday (14 September), Police nationwide will be paying particular attention to those drivers who are putting peoples’ lives at risk when they use their mobile phone while driving.
• If you are using a mobile phone while driving, you can expect to be stopped. Penalties are an $80 infringement fee and 20 demerit points.
• Police will use a range of tactics to ensure drivers are not using mobile phones while driving.
• But it won't stop there. Police will be picking up any other high risk behaviours, such as people not wearing their safety belts or running through intersections.
• This is about making our roads safer. Police does not retain a cent in any fines issued. We would prefer not to issue any infringements, as it would show everyone is driving safely and giving their full attention to the road.
