Be part of the Tuia 250 commemorations at Auckland Viaduct this Labour Weekend. You can check out our accessibility information below, including public transport and mobility parking options, locations of essential facilities such as toilets, food, water, first aid and more.

Venues and Locations

The event is spread across multiple locations with no main entry gates. You can access the activities from any area of the site closest to your parking or transport stop. Below are the venue addresses where activities will be held:

Princes Wharf, 137 - 147 Quay Street, Auckland CBD.

New Zealand Maritime Museum, Corner Quay and Hobson Streets, Viaduct Basin.

Eastern Viaduct, off the corner of Quay and Hobson Streets, Viaduct Basin.

Te Wero Island, access via the bridges from the Eastern Viaduct, Corner of Quay and Hobson Streets or from Karanga Plaza, Corner Jellicoe and Halsey Streets, Wynyard Quarter.

Karanga Plaza, corner of Jellicoe and Halsey Streets, Wynyard Quarter.

Silo Park and Silo 6, Beaumont and Jellicoe Streets, Wynyard Quarter.

Queens Wharf North End, 89 Quay Street, Auckland CBD. This location is active on Friday only.

Quiet Times

It is expected the first hour of the event will be the quietest.

Getting to the Event

For information on accessible travel using public transport, please visit at.govt.nz/bus-train-ferry/accessible-travel

There are fewer services on weekends and public holidays. Plan your journey at at.govt.nz/bus-train-ferry/#!/journey-planner

From Britomart, it is approximately 500 metres to Maritime Museum, 1km to Karanga Plaza and 1.3km to Silo Park via Quay Street and Wynyard Crossing.

There is construction on Quay Street which has temporarily altered the pedestrian paths including temporary ramps and crossings. Please follow the guidance provided.

Buses

Within the City, all buses kneel to the kerb and also have a ramp, with specified areas onboard for wheelchairs and priority seats at the front. Other accessibility features for visually impaired customers are on every bus.

Concessionary fares are available to passengers who hold one of the following ID cards: Auckland Transport Total Mobility ID card or Royal New Zealand Foundation of the Blind ID card.

If you are heading to Silo Park from the city-centre, then you might prefer to catch the City Link. It will transport you to the closest stop at Silo Park which is 63 Jellicoe Street (Stop #1061). As you exit the bus, turn left and travel for a few minutes until you reach the Silos.

Trains

Buses are replacing some trains over labour weekend on the Southern, Eastern and Western Lines. We recommend pre-planning your journey. Every effort is made to ensure that the buses which replace trains are as accessible as those operating in the city.

Mobility ramps are located on the middle carriage of the 3-car trains, or the second and fifth carriages on the 6-car trains.

A lift is located at each end of the Britomart platforms which go up to street level.

Mobility Parking

Use mobility parking provided in public facilities nearest the activations you are interested in or mobility parking available on the surrounding streets.

For street parking, refer to Access Map for Auckland’s CBD. Below is a list of nearby carparks.

Downtown Carpark, 31 Customs Street West

Nearest to Princes Wharf, NZ Maritime Museum, Eastern Viaduct and Te Wero Island.

Downtown Carpark offers mobility parking at a rate of first 2 hours free then usual rates apply for weekdays; free after 6pm weekdays and all-day weekends and public holidays.

Take your mobility card and entry ticket to a pay machine and press the help button for instructions.

The downtown carpark has 19 mobility parking spaces in total. Level 1- 1 space; Level 1A - 1 space; Level 1B - 6 spaces; Level 1B - 7 spaces; Level 2 - 1 space; Level 3 - 1 space; Level 4 - 1 space; Level 5 - 1 space.

There are time restrictions on mobility parking spaces for level 1A and 1B.

Please note: When the entranceway via PWC building is closed after hours, the only mobility access is via the main entrance on Custom street West through to the lifts by the Payment machines.

Jellicoe Street Open-Air Carpark, 37-55 Madden Street, Wynyard Quarter. Best parking for Silo Park, Silo 6 and Karanga Plaza.

Jellicoe Street carpark operates 7 days from 7am-10pm. On Friday and Saturday, the first hour will be free (available once within a 24-hour period) and then $6 per hour thereafter, to a maximum of 4 hours. On Sunday and Monday (public holiday – labour day) it will be $2 per hour, to a maximum of 4 hours.

There are 5 mobility parking spaces here, but no time restrictions exist for them. As is usual, your mobility card needs to be displayed where it is visible for enforcement officers.

Queens Wharf  - for viewing voyaging fleet arrival on Friday. Limited to 3 spaces only for use within event times. Mobility Cards must be shown to access carparks via Security to the right of The Cloud.

Location of Toilets

Toilets will be indicated on all site maps which are located at the main pedestrian areas across the event site.

Getting around the event site

This is a large flat site with lots of activities to enjoy. Viaduct Basin and Wynyard Quarter were developed as pedestrian-friendly areas and are flat and easy to get around.

At times the Wynyard Crossing bridge may lift for boats to pass under. Pedestrians are notified of the lift by an alarm, flashing lights and gate closure.

Assistance Dogs

Assistance Dogs are welcomed in all areas of this event. Dog drinking bowls can be found at event water stations located at Te Wero Island and Karanga Plaza. There is no specified toileting area for dogs.
