Business owners are being warned of a scam where a man claiming to be from a company called Aero Fire cold calls retailers to supposedly service their fire extinguishers and then leaves the victim with a bill.
The owner of a café in Highland Park has complained to Police regarding the scam after a male came to her premises in June.
A male has then returned to the business two months later asking for the payment but has left when it was refused. He is described as being of Fijian or Indian descent, mid 30s, approximately 6ft tall, of medium build with short shaved hair. The male was seen driving a blue Ford Focus.
Detective Sergeant Dave Honiss from Counties Manukau Financial Investigation Team says, “Anyone who may have experienced a similar situation should contact Police. Do not engage the services of these people.”
It is believed a similar scam involving two men was run back in 2005, with the men again saying they were from Aero Fire.
