Senior Sergeant Matt Emery says “The only parking available at AMI Stadium tomorrow is pre-paid allocated parking and only very limited spaces on nearby streets. There are park and ride options from The Palms, Northwood, Merivale and Hornby Malls direct to the stadium which we encourage drivers to use to help minimise congestion and avoid frustration before the match.”
“We suggest rugby fans aim to get to the stadium 60 minutes before kick-off so that bag and ticket checks can be completed and fans are able to enjoy the atmosphere and pre-match entertainment. All ticket holders will also receive an email from match organisers today reminding them of the terms and conditions of entry.”
“Unfortunately while the majority of the people going to the Test Match will be passionate rugby fans some offenders take advantage of large crowds to target people’s belongings. Opportunistic crime can be prevented by taking simple steps to keep your property safe. Make sure you lock doors and windows when you leave your home, vehicle or motel room and secure valuables out of sight” said Senior Sergeant Emery.
“Allow enough time for your journey and if you’re not going to the match try to avoid the roads near the stadium before and after the game to minimise traffic congestion. If you notice any unsafe driving remember to dial *555 from your mobile phone to report it.”
Police will be monitoring alcohol and related crime and disorder around the area tomorrow.
“Plan ahead and consider using public transport, car/taxi sharing or nominate a sober driver if you intending to consume alcohol. Canterbury Police take an anytime anywhere policy on breath testing so any driver stopped will be breath-tested. High visibility patrols will also be visiting licensed premises throughout the city during and after the match” explained Senior Sergeant Emery.
This is the only international rugby match being held in Christchurch this year so help us make sure that it is one to remember for the right reasons on and off the pitch.
