Kaipātiki Local Board Chair John Gillon at Little Shoal Bay, Northcote
New, large colourful shade sails have been installed this week at playgrounds in Little Shoal Bay Reserve in Northcote and Inwards Reserve in Birkdale.
“The playgrounds were among the top in our list for needing shade in Kaipātiki,” says Kaipātiki Local Board Chair John Gillon.
“The summer sun can be hot and harsh, so these shade sails will provide much-needed protection for children and their parents."
"The shade sails will also help to prevent the equipment from getting too hot for little hands,” says Gillon.
“We have budget left to do one more shade sail installation this financial year, so will look to announce where that will take place in the New Year.”
Kaipātiki Local Board has undertaken a shade review to prioritise which of their existing playgrounds need shade protection the most and how that can be achieved at each site through the use of trees and shade sails.
Kaipātiki Local Board is also looking to incorporate shade solutions into new replacement playgrounds scheduled for installation shortly at Lysander Reserve, Tamahere Reserve and Manuka Reserve.
