The Ministry of Health now publishes weekly summary reports of COVID-19 data for Māori and Pacific Peoples.

The reports include summaries of cases identified as whānau Māori and as Pacific ethnicities from the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic in Aotearoa New Zealand until the present.

The summary reports include data on COVID-19 deaths, hospitalisations, PCR testing rates and vaccination coverage, nationally and by DHB region.

The latest summary of cases identified as whānau Māori (26 February 2020 – 3 April 2022):

• Cases who identified as Māori decreased to 18,283 in the last week, down from the 23,050 the previous week
• The proportion of cases identified as Māori slightly reduced to 20.5%
• 30 fewer whānau Māori cases were admitted to hospital in this week: 210 down from 240 the previous week
• 24 further cases identified as Māori passed away over the week, 15 more whānau than last week
• Gender is not reported by ethnicity. Males are over-represented in total deaths with 209 males passing away compared to 154 females
• There have been more males admitted to ICU, 77 males admitted compared to 45 females.
