Colourful polka dots, planter boxes and a contraflow cycle lane have transformed Federal Street, and now AT is seeking your feedback on how the improvements are working.

Improvements for pedestrians and cyclists

Between Victoria Street and Fanshawe Street, the polka dots help slow vehicles to make the intersections safer. The contraflow cycle lane allows people on bikes to travel in the opposite direction of traffic in the one-way street.

AT installed the improvements as part of a trial to improve the area for pedestrians and people on bikes before a permanent streetscape upgrade takes place in the coming years. Now we are after your feedback on how the changes are working.

Have your say now. Feedback closes on Saturday 19 August.

AT’s Walking, Cycling and Road Safety Manager Kathryn King says already a few tweaks have been made to the layout after the work was installed.

“Because the planters are easy to move, we were able to make adjustments to the project easily once it was installed, when we could see how people were walking, cycling and driving along the street,” she says.

“It is a great way for us to make interim improvements before the streetscape upgrade is made, and we’re keen to get your feedback about the street and how it is working.”
