Bins are in! Auckland Council's new wheelie bin rubbish collection service starts on the North Shore on 9 April.

"Aucklanders have been asking for wheelie bins for years - and now they're here," says North Shore Ward Councillor Chris Darby.

"Switching from bags to bins is the better choice for you and the environment.  Better value, no contracts and no more plastic bags.

"If everyone used bins, we could stop 2.5 million plastic rubbish bags being sent to landfill each year from the North Shore alone."

"Bins are easier to use and will keep our streets cleaner and safer for everyone."

How bins work - three easy steps:

1.  Purchase a pre-paid tag instead of a bag

Pre-paid tags are available at supermarket checkouts across the North Shore.

Tags cost $2.60 each for 80L bins, $3.80 for 120L/140L bins and $5.50 for 240L bins.

2.  When your bin is full, take it to the kerbside by 7am on your usual collection day

3.  Attach the tag to the left-hand bin handle.

Please use your old council recycling bin for the new service.  If you don't have one, call 09 301 0101 or order a free bin.
