It's the time of year when we're thinking about summer. No need to stress about keeping the kids busy during those long school-free weeks, Auckland Council’s got you covered with 2018’s Music and Movies in Parks!

The series’ line-up features three months of free movies and gigs across the city, including two all-new music events Kids Music in the Park and Open Air Orchestra. Whether you’re in Papakura, Orewa or somewhere between, there’ll be something for you to enjoy!

Music in Parks

On the music front, you’re spoilt for choice with 24 free outdoor concerts from rock and pop to RnB, jazz or folk. Head along to Demon Energy Rock the Park with local rock legends The Datsuns, Head Like A Hole, Villainy and Dead Favours; or swing by Demon Energy Summer Jam for summer favourite Stan Walker featuring Jessica Mauboy, Smashproof, Tomorrow People, Swiss and recent VNZMA winners SWIDT.

Get the whole family dancing and singing along for Kids Music in the Park with beloved children’s artists including Suzy Cato, Jay Laga'aia of Jay’s Jungle and Chris Lam Sam. Check out Open Air Orchestra pushing musical genre boundaries as they fuse classical and electronic instruments from the Blackbird Ensemble with contemporary vocals by Julia Deans, Bailey Wiley, Alae and more.

Other unmissable picks of Auckland’s all-you-can-eat music feast include Mel Parsons’ enchanting folk-country vocals, true legend Jordan Luck and the Auckland Domain Band Rotunda line-up.

Movies in Parks

For a cosy night watching your favourite films under the stars, pack a chilly bin and head out to one of 26 movie screenings in Auckland. There’s something for all ages from blockbusters including Wonder Woman and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2; kiwi favourites like Pork Pie and Hunt for the Wilderpeople; fun for the kids or kids at heart with Trolls and Despicable Me 3; and some good ole’ nostalgic classics including Back to the Futureand a special Valentine’s Day showing of When Harry Met Sally.
