Today we are reporting 7,061 community cases, 415 hospitalisations and 5 deaths.

The seven-day rolling average of community case numbers is 7,702 – last Monday it was 7,479.

COVID-19 deaths

Today we are sadly reporting the deaths of five people with COVID-19. 

These deaths take the total number of publicly reported deaths with COVID-19 to 978 and the 7-day rolling average of reported deaths is 17.

Of the people whose deaths we are reporting today; three people were from the Southern region; one was from Auckland and one was from Bay of Plenty.

One person was in their 50s, one person was in their 70s, and three were aged over 90.

Of these people, three were women and two were men.

This is a very sad time for whānau and friends and our thoughts and condolences are with them at this time.

Out of respect, we will be making no further comment.

Vaccinations administered in New Zealand

• Vaccines administered to date: 4,027,000 first doses; 3,978,784 second doses; 32,106 third primary doses; 2,645,189 booster doses: 262,245 paediatric first doses and 120,887 paediatric second doses

*From today, the cases previously classified as ‘border cases’ will now be classified as ‘imported cases’. This change in terminology reflects that although these cases have arrived from overseas, most will be isolating in the community in New Zealand.

Please note, the Ministry of Health’s daily reported cases may differ slightly from those reported at a DHB or local public health unit level. This is because of different reporting cut off times and the assignment of cases between regions, for example when a case is tested outside their usual region of residence. Total numbers will always be the formal daily case tally as reported to the WHO.
