Work on upgrading the footpath of one of Auckland’s busiest al fresco dining areas has been completed in time for the busy season.
The project at Mission Bay widened the pavement to about 6.5m, meaning more visitors can dine outside and enjoy the stunning views of Rangitoto Island, the Waitematā Harbour and the famous Trevor Moss Davis Memorial Fountain.
Auckland Transport has worked closely with Urban Partners, Barfoot and Thompson and Ōrākei Local Board to fund the project, the first of its kind in the city.
The improved area runs from the corner of Patterson Avenue, where Movenpick is located, to Barfoot and Thompson’s office on Tāmaki Drive. The area also covers Patteson Avenue to Tana Mera cafe.
On Patteson Avenue, an additional bus stop has been created.
Ōrākei Local Board Chair Colin Davis is pleased the project has been completed before the busy summer season begins.
