Waitemata Police have seized an estimated $3-$4 million worth of methamphetamine being manufactured in rural Kaukapakapa.

A 48-year-old man from rural Rodney has been arrested and faces four charges in relation to the seizure of around three-four kilograms of methamphetamine at the Kaukapakapa residential address.

Waitemata Field Crime Manager, Detective Inspector Hayden Mander, says the month-long investigation can provide the community reassurance that a substantial amount of methamphetamine is off the streets.

“The devastating effects of methamphetamine are wide-reaching, which is why we continue to target methamphetamine manufacturers and dealers as a priority,” says Detective Inspector Mander.

In addition to the three-four kilograms of methamphetamine seized at the address, Police found $20,200 cash, materials, equipment and chemicals.

Included in the total seizure was in excess of one kilogram of ‘crystallised methamphetamine’ located in a glass pot. Police also found equipment used in the manufacturing process which contained unfinished liquid methamphetamine.

The 48-year-old man will face two charges of manufactures methamphetamine; one charge of possession of equipment materials and precursor materials with intent to manufacture methamphetamine; and one charge of possession of methamphetamine for supply.

He has been remanded in custody to reappear on September 9 at the North Shore District Court.

No further comment will be available as the matter is now before the Court.
