A video by Emerging Auckland shows the demolition of the Downtown Shopping Centre, which between 1975 and 2016 served downtown Auckland as the main city centre shopping centre, closing in May 2016.
The site is being redeveloped by Precinct Properties Limited, which is constructing the 'Commercial Bay' development. It comprises a 36-level office tower, two levels of high-end retail and carparks.
The portion of City Rail Link tunnels running beneath the site will be constructed in the basement levels of the development by Fletcher Construction.
The video tracks the demolition of the shopping centre with photos and a video of the last wall coming down on 5 November 2016; starting at 3m 29sec.
