Mincher (Private)
The garden is set amongst the remnants of an old orchard. Behind the house is the formal area with twin herbaceous borders flanking a lawn backed by hedges of
Ilex cornuta ‘Burfordii’. To one side a cottage garden and whimsical garden shed lead to ‘kissing gates’ which are romantically placed under trailing weeping willows. Beyond these are a further four hectares of native walkways, expansive grassed areas, spring plantings of cherries, rhododendrons, camellias and acers.
There is also a traditional walled kitchen garden complete with a gardener’s cottage and Victorian inspired glasshouses.
A backdrop of typically Northland podocarp forest adds a different dimension to Mincher. Water is a feature throughout with platforms dotted along the northern boundary to allow viewing of the stream and bush beyond.
Lunches, morning and afternoon teas are available by prior arrangement for groups of ten or more people. The garden is suitable for disabled visitors.
